Type 29 of Yoga – Wisdom Yoga

Jnana Yoga is a practice path in the Indian classical yoga system that centers around “knowledge and self awakening”.

The Sanskrit word “Jnana” means “wisdom beyond the mundane world”.

It breaks through the misunderstanding of “Avidya” – the “true self” (Atman) and the “ultimate reality of the universe” (Brahman) – through systematic self exploration and inner insight, ultimately achieving the unity of individual consciousness and cosmic consciousness.

Unlike the body oriented approach of Hatha yoga or the emotional investment of devotional yoga, Wisdom Yoga uses “intelligence” as a tool to guide practitioners in discerning and non attachment, breaking free from the layers of external identity constraints, and facing the ultimate proposition of “who am I”.

Its core philosophy originates from the philosophy of Vedanta, especially Shang Jialuo’s “non duality”: the individual self and the universe’s greater self are essentially indistinguishable, and all feelings of separation stem from ignorance.
